What happens next?

Once you have submitted your application form assess this against our key competencies. If your application form impresses us, the next stage could well be a short telephone interview. If you're successful at that, we'll invite you to a one-day assessment centre.

Assessment centres

We will be holding our assessment centres in either Leatherhead in Surrey or Reading, although we may run some in other locations if appropriate. We reimburse all reasonable travel expenses and can arrange overnight hotel accommodation if you're travelling a long way.

Our assessment centres start at 9.00 a.m. and finish around 3.00 p.m. There'll be an interview and a series of exercises plus a buffet lunch where you'll have the chance to chat to some of our staff.

The key elements of our graduate assessment centre are:

  • Competency-based interview

This one-to-one interview, lasting about an hour, is normally with someone from the business you're being considered for. It consists of a number of questions designed to assess you against our core competencies such as client focus, business awareness, initiative, planning and technical skills.

  • Group exercise

Along with two to five other candidates, you'll be asked to read some information and work as a group to come up with a solution to a business related problem. There's no right or wrong answer - it's more about seeing how you work in a team. Although the problem is relevant to the way we do business, it is not a technical exercise and you don't need to know anything in advance.

  • Written exercise

This is where we ask you to evaluate some information on a business case study, draw conclusions and make recommendations. As with the group exercise, no advance knowledge is required.

  • Psychometric tests

You'll sit two short tests to assess numerical reasoning and syntax checking. There's no advance preparation and we'll give you all the information you need on the day.

  • After the event

We usually decide whether or not to make an offer within a few days of the assessment centre. Occasionally we may ask someone to come back for a short second interview, but this is rare.

If we do make you an offer of employment we may also invite you back for a 'return visit'. This is you chance to find out more about working for us so you can make an informed decision about whether a career with Logica is right for you.

Telephone interviews: our Top 10 tips

1. Know who's calling and when
This may seem obvious but if you have telephone interviews scheduled with more than one company, make sure you know which company is due to call and when.

2. Know your application
Your telephone interview will be based on the content of your application form. Make sure you know what's in it, especially if it's some time since you submitted it. Ideally print a copy out just before you submit it. However if you don't have this to hand we can send you an electronic copy. Please e-mail ukgraduates@logica.com to request this.

3. Practice in advance

Make use of any telephone interview workshops arranged through your careers advisory service or even practice with your friends and family.

4. Use bullet points rather than scripts

Using scripted answers does show you've prepared - but it can sound very stilted. Try using bullet point prompts that you can then elaborate on instead.

5. Research the company and have your questions at the ready
Treat it exactly the same way as you would a face-to-face interview. Expect to be asked about your knowledge of the company, its business and the wider trends in the IT market, while having the chance to put some important questions of your own.

6. A suitable location
Look for a comfortable, familiar, quiet place that also has good telephone reception, ideally a land line. If you do have to use a mobile phone make sure it has good reception and is fully charged.

7. Dress for work?
You may be the type of person who finds dressing smartly puts you in the right frame of mind for your phone interview - even if the interviewer can't see you!

8. Choose your posture
Sitting down or standing up? Your posture impacts on the way you sound over the phone. See what gives you the best results.

9. Mirror benefits: smile!

This is a call centre/telesales trick. The expression on your face also impacts on the way you come across.

10. Have your diary handy

Things could move fast after this stage. Have your diary handy to check your availability for the next stages.
